the badlands

Our cabins are located in the heart of the Badlands. The Badlands are deposited  layers composed of tiny grains of sediments such as sand, silt and clay that have been cemented together into sedimentary rocks over thousands of years. Adventure outdoors and explore their beauty.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park lies in western North Dakota, where the Great Plains meet the rugged Badlands. A habitat for bison, elk, prairie dogs, horses and many more. The  park has three sections linked by the Little Missouri River. The Theodore Roosevelt National Park is known for the South Unit’s Painted Canyon and the Maltese Cross Cabin, where President Roosevelt once lived. The North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located about eight miles from the cabins. A great place to spend the day with your family!

Lake Sakakawea

Lake Sakakawea is one of the three largest man-made reservoirs in the nation. It has a surface area of about 368,000 acres and is 178 miles long. As part of the Missouri River system, the reservoir was created in the 1950s with the completion of Garrison Dam, one of six main-stem dams built and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control, hydroelectric power, navigation and irrigation.

Visit one of the many marinas around the lake for awesome fishing including Walleye, Northern Pike and Bass or boating fun.

Old Sod Post office

Attention history buffs, the Old Sod Post Office is just waiting for you! Located on Highway 85 in Grassy Butte, this historical treasure, made of both earth and timber, is one you must see!

Lewis and Clark trail museum

Located in Alexander, ND, the Lewis and Clark Trail Museum recognizes, honors, and preserves the story of Lewis and Clark and the homesteaders who followed. This museum has one of the largest and most extensive collection of artifacts in northwestern North Dakota, including many rare and unusual items. 

 

The main museum building used to be an old school in Alexander from 1914 until 1967. But that's not all this museum has to offer, the museum expands to the entire property with many other historic buildings such as an old log cabin, a sheepherders wagon, church and the old local Boy Scout headquarters.

Maah Daah Hey Trail

The Maah Daah Hey Trail is located a short distance from Bennett Creek Lodge. The trail is nearly 150 miles long and provides the perfect backdrop for hikers, bikers and horseback riders to discover the rugged beauty of the North Dakota Badlands. 

Medora, ND

The historic town of Medora is located on the western edge of North Dakota. Medora is North Dakota's number one tourist destination. the city is surrounded by breathtaking views with access to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Known for its western culture, visitors find the little town hustling and bustling with activities for all ages! While there, checkout the famous Medora Musical and golf 18-holes at the Bully Pulpit Golf Course. At Bully Pulpit Golf Course in Medora, ND, you'll find yourself climbing through meadows and woodlands and meandering along the Little Missouri River, fully engulfed in the beautiful landscape around you!

Pheasant Country Golf Course in South Heart, ND, is located along the scenic Heart River. Golfers enjoy wide open scenery while golfing the challenging course.

Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson, ND, is also nestled along the scenic Heart River, with numerous panoramic views of Patterson Lake. This highly regarded course combines a rolling top nine with a wooded bottom nine that brings plenty of trees and water into play.

Medicine Hole Golf Course in Killdeer, ND, is a 9-hole, scenic course located close to the Killdeer Mountains.
